The Future of Spider Cliff

Posted by meserene, 4:41pm, 29 Jan, 2006

So, what's happening long-term for Spider Cliff? I started this thread because I thought it would be fun to have a place to spew wild theories about the bigger plot lines. Like in the first few chapters there are all of these references about how if Barlow loves Crystal he'll have to kill her, which I can't wrap my head around. And that clue about how Rebecca came to the town for really shady reasons, similar to Crystal's original motives. Didn't it say she came really close to destroying the town? Her character has always been so hard to figure out. Will they ever fix the bridge? Is it troubling that Annabelle has all these human feelings and emotions? There's just so much to think of! I've always had trouble seeing bigger pictures. Maybe a communal rant will orgainize things.

I forsee Turnip and the Judge eloping later on. :p

OK, seriously, I'm not sure what's going to happen. I do think more people will be coming to town, and possibly a bridge eventually being rebuilt. A town of 8 can only last so long without outside help. Speaking of which, who farms so that the diner has food, or is Rebecca magicking up some grub?

Well, she makes coffee beans from cockroaches. Maybe she makes steaks from tree bark.

Or maybe they have a whole ton of canned goods in various storage areas around town.

well in chapter one, Barlow went to a storage area under the town, so there would definetly be more of those. I can guarantee that there are some areas in Spider Cliff we have not seen yet.

also, what about seasons? its been several months (in Spider Cliff time) since the first story and first chapter, I'm not sure the exact calculations, but at least 4 or 5 months. So if the story started in the spring or early summer, it should be around September or October and it would be getting cooler. Is Spider Cliff located around the latitude of florida or so? because that would somewhat explain why some characters aren't wearing long sleeve shirts more often. with the exception of annabelle cause she is dead anyway.

plus jason made that Spider Cliff in winter pic, so that suggests they do have winter.

More people coming to the town would require the bridge to be fixed. If it is, then Barlow will most likely leave. Eventually he might want to stay, but that won't happen for a while.

I don't know how much time has actually gone by. Story 2 happened literally right after Story 1, and 3 can't have been much later. I would guess that only 1 1/2 to 2 months have actually passed. Of course, I'm probably wrong.

yea, story 2 is right after story 1, on the same day, story 3 is a few days after story 2 ends, so thats less than two weeks for all 3 stories. Story 4 is several days later, then story 5 is either the same day story 4 ends or a day later. Story 6 starts the next afternoon story 5 ended. and I don't know how long it was between this story and the end of story 6.

So, yea, 3 months at the most. This could be over the entire summer for Spider Cliff. In the next story or two, they should start going into fall, or at least the end of summer.

Maybe, if more characters are needed, someone can crash a hot air balloon ala wizard of oz style lol!

I was also considering the possibility of a new character appearing, but another demon... Perhaps arriving on wings? A flying character would add interesting possibilities with regards to committing crimes.

some time ago Jason said he wasn't planning on having any new characters anytime soon, so there will be several stories before a new character appears.

although, considering Turnip is around Barlows age (probably a couple years younger), he would be sexually mature, so maybe he will find a girlfriend of his own species someday :)

The easiest way to bring in a new character would be to introduce a ghost. Who knows, maybe Vedalia will eventually get suspicious of the company at Barlow's house, and will show up to haunt and kvetch him.

ghosts, a vampire, maybe a werewolf... i predict by the end of this series (sob) there will be lots of types of mythical creatures to go around and maybe 1 or 2 new humans as well
